Anita

Verse 1

All my relationships were like that song from Queen,

“Another One Bites The Dust.”

These days I never speak to my old girlfriends,

Probably best for all of us.

But there’s one lady I’ve stayed close to.

Especially when life gets insane.

She’s always there to lend an ear

And Anita is her name. I call…

Chorus

Anita, Anita drink.

Anita, Anita, pull me from the brink.

Come to my rescue before I start to sink.

Help me Anita, Anita drink.

Verse 2

I first met her back in college.

At a party at my frat.

Since then she’s followed me from job to job,

Each time the boss got on my back.

And when I needed a shoulder to cry on

‘Cause another girl broke my heart.

There was my Anita

Waiting for me at the bar. I’d cry…

Repeat Chorus

Bridge

And when I decide to settle down, Anita and I will stay friends.

“Cause no matter how good that relationship goes I’ll bet we’ll still need to talk now and then.

(Maybe a few times a week) I’ll yell…

Repeat Chorus

Add: I tell you Anita, Anita drink.

Anita, Anita, Anita drink

Exception To The Rule

Verse 1

Most girls that hot are stuck up but she’s not.

No, man, she’s cool. An exception to the rule.

Verse 2

More class than a queen but she swears like a fiend.

Not made for Sunday school. An exception to the rule.

Chorus
An exception to the rule and she’s exceptional too.

Verse 3

She don’t sip white wine. A can of Bud’s just fine.

At home on a bar stool. An exception to the rule.

Verse 4

She’ll skip bridal showers, to hang with the boys for hours.

Playing cards and shooting pool. An exception to the rule.

Repeat Chorus

Bridge

She’s exceptional, unforgettable, different from all the rest.

So untypical, unpredictable, like nothing you’d expect.

Verse 5

She don’t shop Bloomingdales. Loves Home Depot sales.

Adores her power tools. An exception to the rule.

Verse 6

Has great taste, generally. Don’t know why she’s with me.

She’s not easily fooled. I’m the exception to that rule

Repeat Chorus 2X

Life's Rearview Mirror

Verse 1

I was Johnny Cash’s biggest fan.

As a kid, I almost met the man.

We saw him in a restaurant.

Daddy said: “I know what you want.

So go over there and do what you need to.”

But I was just too afraid to move.

Chorus 1

And driving home my dad said:

“There’ll be things in life that you’ll regret.

As you grow up, you’ll find it’s true.

But the stuff that clutters up your mind

Ain’t the bad things that you’ve tried.

It’s more about those things you didn’t do.”

Now twenty years later it all looks so much clearer

As I’m staring into life’s rearview mirror.

Verse 2

Girls like her only come around once in life.

I hear these days that she’s a smarter man’s wife.

‘Cause stupid me let her go.

Thought I still had oats to sow.

Wouldn’t listen to a word my dad had to say.

Like “Son, don’t let this one get away.”

Chorus 2

“And remember this”, he also said:

“There’ll be things in life that you’ll regret.

As you grow up, you’ll find it’s true.

But the stuff that clutters up your mind

Ain’t the bad things that you’ve tried.

It’s more about those things you didn’t do.”

Now ten years later it all look so much clearer

As I’m staring into life’s rearview mirror.

Bridge

I always wanted to tell my Dad how much his words had meant.

I just didn’t expect yesterday would be the last chance I’d get.

Chorus 3

Well, you were right again Dad, it’s like you said,

There’ll be things in life that I’ll regret.

As I’ve grown up, I’ve come to find it’s true.

But the stuff that clutters up my mind

Ain’t the bad things that I’ve tried.

It’s more about those things I didn’t do.

Now one day later it all looks so much clearer

As I’m staring into life’s rearview mirror.

Love Me To Death

Verse 1

When you kiss me my heart beats so fast,

Like a locomotive running full blast.

I could go into cardiac arrest.

Baby, I’m scared you’re gonna love me to death

Verse 2

One look in your eyes, my knees go weak.

I could fall down the stairs; be the end of me.

You squeeze me so tight, I can’t catch my breath.

Honey, I swear you’re gonna love me to death.

Chorus 1

You’re gonna love me to death. Don’t get too close.

You’re gonna love me to death. You’re a lethal dose.

You’re gonna love me to death. I know that for sure.

I got to hold on till science can come up with a cure.

Verse 3

My doctor says you make my blood pressure rise.

Says he’s never seen anyone’s go so high.

If this keeps up I ain’t got many days left.

His diagnosis is you’re gonna love me to death.

Chorus 2

You’re gonna love me to death. Don’t get too close.

You’re gonna love me to death. You’re a lethal dose.

You’re gonna love me to death. I tell you it’s true.

The FDA should put a warning label on you.

Verse 4

I’m tempting fate just to phone ya.

‘Cause the chills you give me I could catch pneumonia.

But if I go to my eternal rest

I’ll have a smile on my face ‘cause you loved me to death.

And on my tombstone these words will forever be etched

“Here Lies a Man Who Was Loved to Death”

And should I meet St. Peter he’ll say “Son, you’ve been blessed.

‘Cause if you gotta go you might as well be loved to death. (3X)

Rain So Hard

Chorus

I’ve seen lightning that could blind the eyes.

I’ve heard thunder that would shake the skies.

I’ve watched white clouds turn coal-black dark.

But I never thought it could rain so hard.

Verse 1

Down and down, the rain came down.

It soaked me to my bones.

For days and days I felt it pound.

But it couldn’t wash this pain from my soul.

Repeat Chorus

Verse 2

I cried make it stop, dear God make it stop.

Or else I know I will drown.

I can’t take another drop.

That’s when the sun came out.

Final Chorus

Now I see sunlight and it soothes my eyes.

Pouring down from a faded denim sky.

A cloud’s been lifted that was coal-black dark

And brought an end to a rain so hard.

I pray I never again see it rain so hard.
